Editorial policy

This page exists so that you can hold us to something specific. It states who writes here, how claims are established, how the site earns money, what we will not do at any price, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Who writes here

All editorial content on savorin.online is written and edited by Isla Ward, director of publication for BohDo Fast Transport s.r.o.. Articles carry that byline and a publication date. There are no anonymous posts, no pseudonymous contributors, no syndicated filler and no guest posts.

Where an article is later revised on a point of substance, the revision is recorded on the page rather than made silently.

How we establish facts

We work in three tiers, and we say which tier a claim comes from when it matters:

  1. Primary documentation. Vendor documentation, operating-system developer documentation, published standards, regulatory texts. This is the strongest tier and the one we prefer for any statement about what a product or platform does.
  2. Independent measurement. Published results from independent testing institutes — AV-TEST, AV-Comparatives, SE Labs — and from bodies such as ENISA, the NCSC and CISA. We link to the report, not to coverage of the report.
  3. Reasoned inference. Where something follows from the first two tiers but has not been stated outright, we say so in the text using plain hedging language rather than presenting it as established.

If we cannot place a claim in one of those three tiers, we do not print it. A sentence that would need an invented statistic to be interesting is a sentence we cut.

On numbers specifically

We do not quote a statistic without a source you can open, and we do not launder a number through the phrase "studies show" or "an industry report found". If you see an unsourced figure on this site, it is an error and we want to hear about it.

How the site is funded

Entirely by affiliate commission. When a reader follows a link marked partner link and later buys from the advertiser, the advertiser pays a commission through an affiliate network. The reader’s price is not affected. There is no other revenue: no display advertising, no paid placements, no sponsored articles, no newsletter sponsorship, no data sales — we have no data to sell.

Notes state the reader's price is unchanged and that this site sets no cookie.
Every commercial link on the site works exactly this way. Original diagram produced for savorin.online.

Every commercial link carries, without exception: the rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" attributes search engines expect; a visible partner link label; a note stating that we earn a commission and that it costs you nothing extra; and a disclosure above the fold on the page it appears on. The full mechanism is described in the affiliate disclosure.

Advertiser independence

The commercial relationship determines which product is advertised. It does not determine what we write about it. Specifically:

What we refuse to do

This list is the point of the page. These are not aspirations; they are things that will not appear on this site.

Fabricated testimonials or "reader stories".
We publish no user reviews, no quoted customers and no reader-submitted experiences. We have no mechanism to verify such a thing, and an unverifiable testimonial is indistinguishable from an invented one. Earlier versions of this site used a "reader story" framing; it has been removed, because nothing on the page was ever submitted by a reader.
Invented ratings and scores.
No star ratings, no "9.4/10", no award badges of our own devising. We do not run a testing laboratory, so any score we printed would be decoration. We point at institutes that do run laboratories instead.
Artificial urgency.
No countdown timers, no "offer ends tonight", no fake stock counters, no "3 people are viewing this". Where a genuine promotion exists, the advertiser’s own page is where you will see it, with its real terms.
Guaranteed-result claims.
No product makes you safe, stops all threats, or guarantees anything. Security is a matter of reducing risk, and any sentence implying otherwise is false whoever writes it.
Invented statistics and specifications.
No unsourced percentages, no benchmark figures we did not measure, no feature lists copied from an affiliate brief without checking. If we cannot confirm a specification, we say we cannot confirm it.
Impersonating editorial independence we do not have.
We do not present an advertising-funded page as a neutral comparative review. This site writes explanatory articles that carry advertising, and it says so at the top of every page.
Scare-first writing.
Fear sells security products, which is exactly why we will not use it as the opening move. We describe mechanisms and let the reader draw the conclusion.

Corrections procedure

We will get things wrong. When that happens:

  1. Tell us. Email info@savorin.online with the page and the problem. A link to a source helps; an assertion without one is still welcome and will still be checked.
  2. We check it. Against the primary source wherever one exists. We aim to respond within five working days.
  3. We fix it in place. A factual error is corrected in the body of the article, not left standing with a note beneath it.
  4. We record the change. Corrections that change the meaning of a passage are noted at the foot of the article with the date and what changed. Typographical fixes are not logged.
  5. We update the review date. So you can tell how stale a page is.
Whose information wins

Where anything we publish about a product conflicts with the vendor’s own current documentation, pricing or terms of sale, the vendor’s information prevails and ours should be treated as out of date. We are a secondary source about products we do not control.

Images and diagrams

Every illustration on this site is an original SVG diagram drawn for the article it appears in. We use no product screenshots, no stock photography, no vendor marketing imagery and no third-party icons. Each diagram carries a title, a description for assistive technology, real alternative text and a caption. Nothing is loaded from a remote server.

Where a diagram depicts an example — such as the phishing message in our phishing guide — the example is invented, and the diagram says so. No real company, domain, message or person is depicted.

Trademarks

Product and company names used on this site are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used for identification only. BohDo Fast Transport s.r.o. and savorin.online are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or otherwise connected to Surfshark or to any other company named here. Our only relationship with any vendor mentioned is the affiliate agreement described above.
